Got a MAC G4 450MHz Dual Processor 128Mb RAM 10Gb HD.
Using Excel from Office2001 for MAC and system crashes!
On a worksheet I select Tools->Insert->Function( whatever
function) and I receive the desired result,however by
selecting again Tools->Insert->Function(any function) the
system crashes!! The display freezes and I can only
reboot the Mac!
I tried to delete the preference file... re installed the
office 2001(including XL)... assigned multiple memory to
the application( e.g. minimum requirements 6 asssign
2x6=12 or 3x6=18) but the problem remains.
Can anybody help me resolve the problem?
Thank you in advance
Jiannis

I'm not sure why you're crashing, but instead of increasing the
*minimum* memory setting, try increasing the "preferred" setting -
when I used XL01 I kept it at 25MB, but that was probably overkill.
The minimum setting reserves that memory and prevents any other
application or the system from using it, the preferred setting
allows memory above the minimum to be swapped out to disk
temporarily if the system or another application requires it. If you
can afford it, get more memory - while Office says it will run,
128MB is pretty tight if you're running anything else.

beyond that, I'd suggest making sure you've applied all the updates
from MacTopia:

http://www.microsoft.com/mac/download/default.asp?navindex=s10

and, when you delete preferences, delete both

Excel Settings (9)
Excel Toolbars (9)

and perhaps

Microsoft Office Settings (9)

for good measure
