Excel 2002 bug?

Excel 2002 search function does not find values N.00, that is values ending
in the number .0 or .00, that is "decimal 0" or "decimal 00". This is a
problem since I am keeping track of my expenses using Excel.

Why is that?
Is there a fix?
My version of Excel is 2002, SP3.

Excel is looking through the values. And if your cell contains 123 (formatted
to show 123.00), the value is really 123.

If you search for just the significant digits (like 123 or 123.1) does it work
ok for you?

Thanks for your interest. You are correct in guessing that the Excel input
window truncates the number to the significant digits and drops the decimal,
even if I key enter these characters. It's not ideal since if I due a search
all for 123.00 and 0.123, I get hits on both.

But the real problem, so to speak, is that if I search for 123.00, I get no
hits at all. The search function is applying my search key literally and is
not smart enough to realize that that a hit on "123" might be the right
answer.

Any ideas how to live with this or make it work better?

If you select the "Find entire cells ony" option, only the first value will
be found,

Norm:

I tried your suggestion and clicked on the "match entire cell contents"
checkbox on the Search form, but still no-go. Did not find "$2.00" where I
entered 2.00 but Excel truncated it to "2".

I did find that if I preceeded the "2" with the literal key " ' ", that I
could force it to retain the trailing decimal and double-0, but it seems like
a lot of bother. I can't help but feel that the search function was written
by one coder and the rules for retaining data in the cell by somebody else
and they weren't talking to each other.
