There is not much difference between excel 97 and excel
2000. I haven't heard of excel 2002 but there is excel
2003.
Despite all this, I learned excel 2000 with excel 97 and
what the outline of the course I did (Dip of IT Semester
1) provided, I found very little difference between the
two.
I now have excel 2000 and after digging deep into
functions, formulas and vba, have found subtle changes.
For the sake of the course, I wouldn't really worry about
it. Courses rarely delve in to the areas where the changes
matter.
Besides all that, you can always come here and ask
specific excel 2002 questions you do not understand.

I have Office 2000 on my computer. I have just
registered for a course in Excel, but learned that I need
Excel 2002. Excel 2002 is not available at retail. What
do I do?
