Excel 2003 crashes when trying to copy/paste cells

This is a problem that I began having last week. When I copy cells in excel
and attempt to open a new email to paste it in, excel shuts down completely.
I have also attempted to copy cells from excel and paste into other Office
2003 programs and the same thing happens. Excel shuts down and if I have not
saved the file, everything is lost.

My IT department uninstalled and then reinstalled Office yesterday and the
problem stopped. Automatic updates ran today and installed the High Priority
updates and now the problem is back again. Is anyone else having this
problem and/or does someone know of a solution…?

Thanx...

I would like to know the same answer. I have a user in the office that has
the same EXACT problem. However, I have not gone to uninstall and then
reinstalling yet.

I would like to know the root cause to this if possible too. In the
meantime, I will see what I can dig up.

Most likely there is corruption in the worksheet. Try doing a copy, paste
special, values to another worksheet, preferably one in another workbook.
If that works, corruption is most likely your problem. You may be able to
paste special formulas. I would not paste special formats, as that is where
I have seen corruption problems.

I fixed this by going to Start|All Programs|Microsoft Office|(right-click Microsoft Office Excel 2003 & choose 'Troubleshoot compatibility'). I selected 'Try recommended settings' and Windows 7 recommended 'Windows compatibility mode: Windows XP (Service Pack 2)'. No more crashes when I copy multiple cells using ctrl-c!!!
