EXCEL 2003 Registry subkey missing

J

Joe Irwin

MS Knowledge Base article # 283881 addresses a problem I am having when
attempting to access an EXCEL 2003 file which reads: "Could not find an
installable ISAM".

It says to browse to the registry subkey
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Jet\4.0\Engines\Excel" and check the
path name against the actual path name.

However, after a fresh install of MS Office 2003 and adding all the updates,
my registry still does NOT contain the subkey mentioned in this article.

I have also reinstalled Office 2003 and done a repair, but, alas, no subkey
name "Excel" in the "Jet\4.0\Engines" key. What should I do to get the proper
subkeys in my registry so I can stop this error message? Thanks!

Hi Joe,

The article you mentioned relates to accessing Excel files via MS Office Access. You may want to also post this in the MS Office
Access discussion group using the link below.

If the ...\Engines\Excel\... subkey does not exist it can be that the MDAC or Jet files are damaged.

If the Excel subkey is not present, then from the article you mentioned, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/283881
you may want to try starting with Step #8, assuming you're logged in as Admin in on the machine, to see if that helps.
