If I enter a number into a cell it is put in like a decimal. For example, if
I enter 10 it is put in as .1 500 is entered as a 5
Thank you

Mary,

Goto Tools>Options and on the Edit tab you should see The Fixed Decimal
Places box checked. Uncheck it.

Thanks Bob. I really appreciate your taking the time to answer. I could not
find the setting, so I just opened an excel spreadsheet in SAFE mode and then
saved it as BOOK.XLT. It solved the problem, but did not show me how the
problem started. I can usually google an answer, but did not have luck with
it this time. I was stumped and to say the least inconvenienced........Mary

So if you open an Excel file, and go to Tools-- Options-- click on Edit Tab --
about 1/2 way down popup should be an entry Fixed Decimal with a box before it
and Number of places below and margined to the right

Is this not there? If it is, is the box in front of it checked?
