Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
Processor: Power PC

Yesterday AutoUpdate ran -- this was the Office 2004 11.5.4 Update. Today, I tried to run Excel but cannot...now I get this message:

The application "Excel" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "<Microsoft Excel><><><>"

I am running on an iBook G4 on OS X 10.4.11.

Thanks for any help you can offer,
COT

Did you try repairing disk permissions & restarting your Mac after applying
the update?

Yes, I did try the disk permission repair and a reboot -- no difference. Is there a way for me to undo the update?

Thanks,
COT

I opened my updated version of 20004 this morn and works fine for me.
But I use X.4.11

There is no way to remove the update. According to MS instruction in the
Additional Information on Mactopia:

If you experience problems opening Office applications after you reinstall
this update, restart your computer. If you continue to experience problems
after you restart, reinstall Office from your Office 2004 CD-ROM, and then
install this update again.

However, I'd try re-applying the update again before doing an actual
remove/install. Also, go to the Apple Downloads site & retrieve the 10.4.11
Combo Update - it might make a difference.

But I use X.4.11

(so do I, as mentioned in my original post)

Anyhow, the various suggestions mentioned (permissions, OS X updates, etc) did not work. However, I ended up reinstalling Office from scratch, applying all the AutoUpdates, and now it works again...so "phew", but still no idea why it got screwed up after the update.

Thanks again for your various suggestions,
COT
