Excel 2007 Beta Compatibility Mode

How do I get out of this mode? When I open Excel I get about 50 files
installed.

I think your question may be two-fold. Are you saying when you start
Excel it automatically opens about 50 workbooks? If that's the case
then check your XLStart folder and Office Startup folder for Excel
files.

If you want to find the specific locations of your startup folders
then click the Office Button and select Excel Options at the bottom.
Click Trust Center and then click "Trust Center Settings". Note the
descriptions in the locations. Those that contain "Startup" are your
Excel startup locations.

For workbooks opening in Compatible Mode, if you wish to upgrade them
to the new file format then click the Office Button and select
"Convert".

Yes, every time I open excel it opens alot of files It may be all of the
files in the directory. In the title line it gives the file name and
[Compatibility Mode] - Microsoft Excel.

I tried uninstalling Office 2007 and reinstalling and it didn't help.

Do I have to select and convert each file?

Uninstalling will not help. What you are encountering is caused by
having files in one of the Startup folders so each time Excel starts
it opens all of the files in the folders.

What you need to do is check your Startup folders and remove the files
from the folders so they don't start when Excel starts.

1 Click the Office Button and select Excel Options at the bottom.
2. Click Trust Center and then click "Trust Center Settings".

Note the descriptions in the locations. Those that contain "Startup"
are your Excel startup locations. Locate those folders that contain
Startup and move the files out of the folder and place them in another
folder.

As for upgrading, you don't have to convert each file - you can use
workbooks in the old file format in Excel 2007 just fine.

Maybe WinXP Media Center has something to do with the problem. When I
installed Office 2007 on XP Excel works normally.
