Excel 2007 - Insert Picture Bug - Locks Up Excel and CSRSS.EXE to100% - Problem on 7 Computers

I had a complex workbook, lots of tabs with a company logo on the top
(in the worksheet not the header). Any time I accessed the "PrintArea"
"PrintPreview" or other page layout features of Excel2007 the worksheet
would lock up and the inserted graphics would disappear or blink on and
off as you scrolled around the Excel work sheet (if you could scroll at
all before it locked up).

I was able to re create this behavior on a new blank worksheet (.xls and
.xlsx). Any picture from .jpg, .wmf, or .png was causing the same
problem. Inserted picture displays fine until you select the
surrounding cells and set them as the print area for the worksheet. As
soon as you do this the graphic disappears or blinks repeatedly on and off.

While the graphic is missing from the normal view, if you do run a print
preview, you still correctly see the graphic on the preview. Prints
fine too, but most of the time will lock up Excel. The graphic problem
will not go away or display again until you close Excel and then reopen
the document.

Sometimes simpling editing data in a cell would trigger the same
problems. I do not know what caused the problem when editing cells,
inserting rows or just changing data.

This problem was seen on seven different workstations at our office.
All WindowsXP with all WindowsUpdate and OfficeUpdate Current.

I removed and reinstalled my copy of Office Professional. Problem still
stands.

Anyone got a suggestion? Why does csrss.exe get locked up with this
issue? What the heck does csrss.exe go to do with Excel. (Read something
about it being part of Microsoft's rendering engine)

I do not have graphic issues in Word or other office apps.

Does Microsoft keep an eye on this group? Where else can I file a bug
ticket?

While Excel or csrss.exe are eating up CPU % Going to "PrintPreview" or
"PageLayout" views immediately drops the CPU % for Excel back to normal
or 0% once the view command is completed.

Then going back to normal Excel view the CPU% go out of control again
and the graphic picture disappears.

I was very excited to here MS had SP1 ready for Office2007. I had big
hopes that this would have fixed the Insert Picture Bug. No Luck.
Problem still exist as below.

Can anyone point me to a fix for this?

Where can I log the issue with Microsoft?

determine that it is a bug you get refunded.

I was very excited to here MS had SP1 ready for Office2007. I had big
hopes that this would have fixed the Insert Picture Bug. No Luck. Problem
still exist as below.

I noticed a similar problem when working with a workbook which sounds a lot
less complicated than John's. My workbook had two drawing objects
(rectangles with text) on on of the worksheets. When first opened the
rectangles display correctly however after going into print preview and then
back to the worksheet the rectangles appear to be missing. However, they are
still there just not being displayed. When you either select the range of
cells that contain the rectangles they are visible. Or when you mouse over
their location the cursor changes to the select cursor and you can manipulate
thier properties. I found that when the worksheet has either an entire row
or column set as the print area this phenomemon occurs. If the print area is
removed or set to a specific range (say A1:K20) then the drawing objects
appear normally again.
I tested this with inserted pictures and found the same behavior. It does
not matter if the drawing objects or pictures are set to print or not print.

I know this isn't a solution but a possible workaound if you have either
entire columns or rows selected as the print area until a proper solution can
be found.
