Excel 2007 on top of Office 2003

I have a group of users that are asking for Excel 2007. One of them had
heard that you can just lay Excel 2007 on top of your existing Office 2003
installation. We are not planning to go to Office 2007 until next year.

I do not think this is a good option and I'm looking for some support for my
position. Has anyone done this already and what should I be worried about?

One thought to keep in mind is why pay for Excel 2007 twice? When you
upgrade to to Office 2007, you will be getting Excel with it. Thus, you are
spending additional money early.

Another thought..what benefit would they get by upgrading Excel now instead
of waiting a few months?

Those are good points. I don't think the licensing is an issue. This is a
very large company and we are already covered on that (can't say more right
now).

They claim they need the additional rows that Excel 2007 has. I believe
they could easily wait a few months but they are the business folk and they
pay the bills.

I need to understand what the technical implications are if I'm forced down
this path.

Thanks

Yep - they need more rows.

Have you asked them why they think they need it? What do they think it can
do that 2003 can't?
