Excel 2007 on Windows XP computer will not open .xlsx files.

HI,
When I double click to open a file with an .xlsx extension all I get is the
Excel ribbon on top and a blank screen. I have to minimize then maximize or
go to the office button and open it again. I know I have seen this problem
posted months ago. I was hoping for a current easier solution.
