Excel 2007 - system you are saving does not have enough memory

Ben Jitima

Hello,

One of our employees has been getting a message that I have never seen
before, and after doing a Google search I have come up with no results
whatsoever. The error message is:

The system you are saving to does not have enough memory to remove
personal information from file properties. All personal information
may not be removed

The computer has 2 GB of RAM and Windows controlled page file, running
Windows XP. It does it when saving a particular file and as far as he
says, no other files.

I also noticed a few minutes ago that he was moving some cells around
in a single file, the cells were linked to data in another tab, and
Excel locked up with over 1.2 GB of memory usage displayed in Task
Manager. I can't remember ever seeing any Office software using such
an absurd amount of memory, just from doing some copy and paste and
moving things around.

Does anybody have any ideas as to what could be causing either of
these issues?

Thanks!
Ben

I encountered this same problem in one of my files. The file wasn't that large but had several formulas that referenced between tabs. I figured out it was caused by adding a comment to one cell for some reason. When I deleted the comment, the error message went away...

I have the same problem with one particular file. It was copied from another file I used as a template and I only changed the data and some formatting from the original file. The original file does not give me this error message and it does contain comments in some cells. I just deleted comments from the problem file and immediately it gave me the same error message. Excel works very slowly in general when I have this file open, but it is not a large file - only 38KB. What's up? If anyone has discovered why I'd love to know.

UPDATE: OK, so I looked a little closer and I found another comment on a different tab amongst some locked cells. I deleted this comment after unlocking the cells, then re-locked them. So far no more message ("the system you are saving to does not have enough memory to remove personal information from file properties").
But like I said in my previous post, this error does not occur in the file I copied from which has the same comments, and virtually all other features identical. I really wonder what it is that causes this.
Next: I'm going to try adding comments back in to se if the error comes back.

This is annoying.

I have a huge file, with hundreds of comments, macros, etc. This error only happens to ONE of my team mates, the rest of us can just use it properly.

I am SURE this is related to comments, since they also bring trouble when hiding columns.

Please, if anyone knows how to trace this problem, it will be much appreciated.

I removed all comments and error keeps showing up. Any ideas?
