Excel 2008 color issues

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Processor: Intel Recently, when opening existing excel files saved to my computer, the colors change - usually making the background black and the font white. I am not sure if is because I had updates recently. Why is this happening? and how do I fix it?
