Excel 2008 Find feature doesn't find anything

Last year, I switched from a PC running Office XP to an iMac using Office 2008. While I can manipulate spreadsheets brought over from the PC, almost every time I use the Find feature, as in "Find and Replace", the results are, "Microsoft Excel cannot find the data you're searching for." Files created on the Mac, don't have this problem.

I tried saving the files in an .xlsx format to see if that would affect it, however, there was no change.

Any suggestions as to what's going on and how to fix it?

Thanks in advance.

The odds are it's just a matter of settings in your F&R dialog. Depending on
what you're searching for make certain that the Look In: is set for the
correct option. Most commonly, Values would be the proper choice.

Also confirm correct status of the Match Case & Find Entire Cells Only
checkboxes.

I've not seen any other reports here that there is a problem with the
feature regardless of the source of the sheets & it works fine for me.
