Excel 2008 Number Format Issues

I am having a problem with how numbers appear in cells after I enter
them. I am using Excel 2008 on my 15" MacBook Pro that's running OS X
10.5.1.

The problem is that when I enter a number it appears in the cell as
divided by 100 so I get it in decimal format. For example, I enter
the amount 3654 what appears in the cell is 3654. I have learned to
compensate by adding 00 to each number (365400 gets me the 3654 I
want).

Very frustrating.

Go to the edit tab in Excel's preferences and uncheck "Show this many
decimal places."
