How do I change the default date format to show yyyy rather than yy, please?

That is controlled by Windows settings.
Make changes at Control Panel>Regional Settings for "Short Date"

Thank you Gord, that does the job perfectly.
It never occurred to me to alter the short date setting to the same as the
long date setting. It has obviously had some effects on windows elsewhere,
but hopefully these are livable with.

I have never run into any Application that objected to the "short date"
settings being same as "long date".
