Excel and FileMaker 7

I used to be able to open FileMaker 5.5 files seamlessly with MS Excel
2004 for the Mac. I have since upgraded to FileMaker 7. Excel will not
open FileMaker 7 files as it did with FM 5.5. It says it is a
unrecognized format. I utilize MS Office (especially Excel) exclusively
with my PC clients and this has thrown a big wrench in the fan. I know
of the workaround (exporting FM7 into csv), but it is not as accurate
with the data. I have found multiple errors in the export.

Does anyone know if Microsoft is aware of this problem? Is there a fix
available? Thanks for any assistance that anyone can provide.

MS *is* aware of the problem:

and no fix is available.

I have no idea what's entailed in fashioning a fix, but it obviously
wasn't something trivial.

OTOH, if FM7 is exporting inaccurate data to a csv file, that's
something FM, Inc. needs to fix.
