Excel and Word save VERY slowly

I have a new laptop and when I save in Excel or Word, it
takes FOREVER to save. Word specifically says it
is "preparing to background save" and then it takes about
45 seconds. Not instantaneous, like it should be.

When I also click on the Word or Excel icons to start up
the programs in the morning, it takes, I'm not kidding
you, 2 minutes to open up.

Is this a problem with the laptop, or a setting? Any
guidance appreciated. Something is wrong here.
