Excel back up files

When I save a file in excel it creates a backup of the file automatically.
How do I stop this.

Goto <Tools>Options><Save> and untick settings. Job done.

Thanks Bill but I have already tried this and it still creates a back up file
in the same folder as the original. Help it's driving me nuts.

File|SaveAs|Tools|General Options|Uncheck "always create backup"

This is a workbook by workbook setting. (It's not like MSWord.)
