Excel Changes not saving

I am working with a graph that is automatically updated through functions when I add new data to the spreadsheet. Everytime I try to change the format of the graph, (for instance making the values of the graph show vertically), when closing the spreadsheet after saving and opening the file again, the graph reverts back to its original format. Insight to my problem will be much appreciated!

Try, instead of just changing the graph¹s format, also make a change to a
cell. Enter some data in a blank cell, then delete it. Then save and close
the workbook. See if this makes any difference.
