Excel charts embedded in Word don't maintain their functionality

When a chart is created in Excel, one can place the pointer over a particular
spot on the graph and a small pop up box will show the exact value at that
point. However, when I copy and paste the chart into a Word document, the
program does not show the values at all.

I have tried pasting my charts into Word as an Excel object. In that
instance, I can double click into the chart and then see the values by moving
the pointer over different places on the chart. However, that is an
undesirable solution because of the extra steps involved, in addition to the
issue that my charts simply look better when I paste them into Word as
enhanced metafiles.

Does anybody have any suggestions?

When you copy and paste you get a picture so the chart will not show points.
If you
use Insert->object->from file ... the chart will remain

Chris, I tried that, but it inserted everything from the last active sheet in
the file, not just the chart itself. How can I get it to take just the chart?

Try moving the chart to its own sheet.

Select the chart and choose Chart > Location > As a new
sheet.
