Excel Clipboard Loosing Data?

I found a very strange behaviour with Excel (both 2003 SP3 and 2000 SR-1).

If you copy and paste some data and formulas from an excel document to
another excel document belonging to THE SAME Excel INSTANCE, BOTH Data and
Formulas are copied.

This is the behaviour I would expect.

If you copy and paste data and formulas from an Excel document to another
Excel document belonging to a DIFFERENT Excel INSTANCE, FORMULAS are gone:
only values are copied!

It seems that the second Excel Instance doesn't see the first one and
"translates" the clipboard content to TEXT ONLY.

Is it "normal" or a is it a bug?

Thank you

Hi,

This is Excel's behavior, but whether its intended or not, I don't know. If
you want the formula you can highlight it on the formula bar and copy it.
That's not much use for a large number of formulas, of course.
