On an existing chart, Excel crashes when I select the chart or any line in the chart and then CHART DATA/EDIT from the menu. it does this on any chart. Have resaved document no help. Have saved as .xls or .xlsx no help.

Is your installation of Office fully updated? Version 12.1.9 is the current
status of the software. Also, have you repaired permissions following any
updates/changes to your system? That may not be the complete fix but it's
the first place to start leveling the playing field.

I'm not sure how you're attempting to make the edit as the method you
describe doesn't literally exist :) Are you actually using the main menu &
going to Chart> Source Data or are you clicking the Edit... Button in the
Chart Data section of the Formatting Palette? Do you get the same behavior
regardless of which method you use?

Also, if you're using the Spaces feature of OS X, is Leopard fully updated
to 10.5.7? That update corrected [most of] the incompatibility issues
previously imposed on Office 2008.

OK thanks.
I'm running OSX 10.5.7 and Office is 12.1.9.
Ran Cocktail and repaired permissions - didn't help.
Ran Disk Warrior and replaced directly - that seems to be working.
Will report back later on this with more experience and testing.
PS - I was using Formatting Palette/Chart Data/Edit
