Excel Delays

When I need to go "up a level" to change folders in Excel or Word, my
computer often delays for about 30 seconds. This happens whether I hit the
file name or the arrow key for "up a level". How do I speed things up?

I don't know that there is anything you can do within Excel. I encounter a
delay too (although not as long as 30 seconds) when I'm accessing a network
server with many files/folder.
