excel, disappears from screen after office 2000 install

after installing Office 2000, when I load either Excel, Access or Powerpoint,
they load OK but after a very short period of time (less than 30 secs) they
just disappear from screen. Sometimes they seem to be stable but disappear as
soon as I hit a key or move the mouse. I've uninstalled twice to no avail.
Any suggestions are welcome. I am using Windows 98SE
