I first installed OfficeXP on Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. Everything works fine until I close Office. In other words, I can open, edit, and close files, but after closing, when I exit, Office often crashes. I think it is trying to write some config or template files when closing and hitting permission problems.
I then uninstalled OfficeXP, bought Office2003, and installed Office2003. It has the same problem.
I see crashing in both Excel and Word.
I set Word's customization so that it would always show full menus. When I closed Word, it crashed. The next time I opened Word, I had short menus, suggesting that the customization file wasn't successfully saved.
If I try to exit with a document or spreadsheet open, it will sometimes crash and corrupt the file.
I tried changing Office compatibility mode on and off. No help.
Can you advise me on how to fix this?
