Excel Documents Opening Blank Excel Window

I have a user wil a unique problem that I have not seen before. When double
clicking and Excel document, Excel opens to a blank Excel window but the
document does not open unless it is opened from within Excel.

The problem started when the user noticed that her Mail Merge was not
working properly. While attempting to use Mail Merge, the user receives the
following message:

Word cannot re-establish a DDE Connection to MS Excel to complete the
current task

I assume that Word is reporting that error because Excel is not working
properly.

I tried to repair Office once and I completely removed & reinstalled Office
two times and the problem remains.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

If you're a support perfeshunul, you should have a better idea of
which newsgroups to use. This isn't a good choice for problems with
specific Office applications. Much better to ask in Excel-specific
newsgroups.

Also, useful to check the Google Groups archive first. As has been
mentioned several times in various Excel newsgroups, this problems is
almost always solved by running Excel's Tools > Options menu command,
selecting the General tab in the Options dialog, and UNchecking the
Ignore other applications checkbox.

Thanks Harlan that was it. Yes, I accidentally posted in the wrong place and
I misspelled words. I apologize but I am my company's sole support person for
10,000 + employees. It doesn't leave much room for doing things properly.
Thanks again though. I appreciate the help.
