Excel files won't open from My Documents-can't find them

David

When I attempt to open an Excel file from My Documents, it tells me it can't
find the file. It does open the Excel app however. The path and name it
shows is correct and I can open the file directly through Excel. I don't
have this problem with Word or any other file types. This just popped up
within the last few weeks and may be associated with recent updates. I'm
using XP Home and Excel 97. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly
appreciated.

TIA,

David

It sounds like the file association needs to be recreated. Go to
Start/Run and run the following:

excel /regserver

Note the space before the forward slash.

Also, since it occurs in Excel, in Excel go to Tools/Options/General
and make sure the option "Ignore other applications" isn't enabled.
Although if this option is enabled Excel will start but not open the
workbook and there is no error message so start with the first
suggestion
