Excel filter list navigation

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel Hi!

Can anyone please let me know if it is possible and/or how to navigate in a Excel list using the Autofilter drop down "list" without always going back to beginning of but, instead, going from the selected item (as in the PC version)?
I have lists of thousand items to check one by one and always going back to the beginning is a pain.

AFAIK, the Autofilter behavior cannot be changed.
