Excel hangs when remove some cells

Please I´d like to know if someone has any ideia about my
problem.

I´m using Excel 2002 (XP) and I have a plan that has 16000
lines I need remove some cells to done my job. I´m
inserting AutoFilter and select datas e click in
Edit/Remove (Delete) from this moment excel hangs
allocating 99% of CPU.

I´m using a Dell Computer Pentium 4 512mb RAM Memory
disk of 40gb Windows 2000 Advanced Server SP3
Office XP SP2
