Excel Hyperlink goes to wrong file

J

J.B.

Hello everyone,

When I create a hyperlink and click on it, it does not go
to the right file. I don't understand why. THis
functionality was working and today I tried it out, and
it didn't work.

The file it goes to is always a different file. Please
let me know what information anyone needs to troubleshoot
this problem.

A couple of weird side notes. Other file hyperlinks in
different cells work. Other files of the same type
(.jpg) work in different cells as well. So, it's not the
type of file, and not that particular cell.

The same file hyperlink in a different cell still goes to
a different file.

Bizarre!

Thanks for any help.

Hi John,

A little bit sparse on the information.
Is the hyperlink within the cell or within a shape (image, picture)
Is the hyperlink an object type hyperlink, or is it a
HYPERLINK Worksheet Formula
What do you see, what did you think you had.
With object hyperlink, you can have the link, and what to
display in a cell, and you can have a tooltip as you hover
over the cell with the cursor.

Make sure that you have calculation turned on.

Take a look at User Defined Function that might help you
determine when it changes if you can see the link.

Thanks for the response. I have a feeling somehow my
disk drive got "shotgunned" another application (Quicken
2005) was having a problem and I re-installed it and it
works fine now. Explorer is crashing on me too. I don't
know when this shotgun happened but it seems to be equal
opportunity when it comes to which applications it messes
up.

One funny thing is that I have a program called "What's
changed for Windows" I couldn't find the modification of
the files because the file sizes on these applications
are the same compared to a previous snapshot of the
files. So when the shotgun happened it must have just
changed some of the instructions in the program.

Sorry... this is a wild problem. I'm hoping that these
shotguns are not planned or directed at certain
applications or places in applications.

See below for responses.

Thanks,

a hyperlink worksheet formula. If it's an object it

It goes to an image file in the "My Documents" directory
not to a sub folder of the My Documents directory.

I'll check this.
