Hi i have to files in excel, i cant figure it out, whenever i open th
files, they create temp files into the same location, when i shut dow
the program the temp files are left there.
Is their a way to make it so temp files are not saved.

Or is their a way to make it so that the creation of temp files i
turned off.

Thanks

What do those tempfile names look like?

It they're 8 characters with no extension, then something bad is happening when
you save your workbook.

When excel saves the file, it saves it as a temporary file with a funny name (8
characters--no extension).

If the save is successful, xl will delete the original (or rename it to its
backup name (like "backup of book1.xlk)) and if that's successful, xl will
rename the funny named file to the original's name.

If the temp files are named *.tmp, then I'd disable (temporarily) the antivirus
software. Maybe it's not excel, but the antivirus software that's leaving stuff
behind.

I had to exclude the excel files from the virus scan - had worked fine for
years - and the suddenly the problem you are describing - must have been an
AV update - try it.

I am having the same problem. I really don't want to disable my antivirus.
Also, some users are on Macs. Could that be part of the problem?

What do you mean by "something bad is happening"?

I don't speak the Mac, so I can't help there.

Something bad means either interruptions from the Antivirus software, network
problems or permission problems.

If you disable your AV (only temporarily), you can either find out if that's the
problem or not.
