Excel Links removed but now file not found dialogue box appears.

I used the Excel Add-in for removing links hidden in the workbook. I
must have really done something wrong, because now when I open a file
that previously contained links, the "file not found" dialog appears
with a file name that is probably what the links were referring to.
AFter I click on cancel the box disappears and the file is usable with
no
problem. I would like to get rid of this message. I can't seem to find
anything in the startup folders, nor do my macros seem to be affecting
this. I also went and in deleted the add-in file. Nothing seemed to
work.

Can anyone help me?
(I think I will give up experimenting and just live with annoyances.)

Thanks in advance.

Confused about links

I used to get the message, "update links". Now this other message appears. I
went back to my original file, but when I open it the same thing happens
(file not found message.) So I have to assume it is not hidden links, but
something on my computer.

This what I did now to check it out. I copied the troublesome file to a
different computer. When I open the file on this computer; it does its normal
thing asking if I want to update links. However, if I copy this same file to
the computer I was originally using, I don't get the message for updating
links, I get the dialogue box with file not found. Arggh. I wish I knew where
it was coming from.
Thanks!!!!

I'm wondering if Excel is looking for FINDLINK.XLA which OP may have deleted
after usage but is still checked in Tools>Add-ins.

"with a file name that is probably what the links were referring to"

To OP.

What is the filename in the error message?

The name of the file is a regular Excel file that was
sent to me a long time ago. I imagine that the trouble
some file is based on it. But that file doesn't even
exist anymore. So I need to remove that "File Not Found"
thing.Like I side, all you need to do is cancel and the
file is perfectly usable.

I forget to mention I had already deleted the xla and
also unchecked in the Add-Ins. It no longer appears in
the add-ins.

Hi
this was the reason hy I assumed there's still a link to this file in
your other file. Does this message appear only if you open this
specific file or does it happen everytime you open Excel

It is happening everytime I open a file that has links in
it, but not ones that don't. I just went in deleted
everything I could find relating to the add-in link
regarding this. Whatever is happening, it must be
happening when the file loads. Is there something I
can "shut" off?
