excel macro failure

I have Office XP Professional on Windows XP. Simple
macros to Edit, Paste Special, Formats; and Edit, Paste
Special, Values don't work. They did in my previous
version of Windows and Excel 2000. I get a runtime 1004
error, paste special method of range failed. When I
troubleshoot, Help says to look at Visual Basic "error
messages" - but when I go there, there are no error
messages. In Record Macro Help, it says to check the
Relative Reference Box and there is no such thing. In
Help it says to use the Stop Recording Toolbar and there
is none. And I can't delete the macro, either. Any help
out there?

The Relative Reference button is on the Stop Recording Toolbar.

To activate the SRT go to Tools>Customize>Toolbars and select the SRT to show.

Record a simple throwaway macro then hit the "Stop Recording" button.

The SRT will be available next time you record a macro.

DO NOT close it using the "X" or you you will lose it again.
