Excel: Modifying words in a cell

In my older Windows version of Excel, when I would type something in a cell, the word/numbers I typed would show up in a bar at the top of the page. If I wanted to modify my typing, I could go to the bar at the top of the page and make changes. in my 2008 Mac version, I can't find any way to create a bar at the top of the page to show what I am typing in a cell. What am I missing?

Have you tried going to the View Menu, selecting Formula Bar? It should
appear at the top of your screen right below the Menu Bar - it isn't a part
of the workbook window in 2008.

If that doesn't provide it please post back.

This fixes the problem; thanks for your help. I have also discovered that if I double click the cell I can also modify it that way.

Glad it helped - You can also edit directly in a cell by keying Control+U -
that's the equivalent of the F2 keystroke in PC Excel.
