Excel - numbers

Version: 2004
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard)

I have just got a new problem with my macbook - when I open excel documents they are opening up in iWorks (numbers) which I don't have. The document is saved as .xls so I am a little confused that it isn't working in excel.

Any suggestions.

I don't understand how your Excel files can be "opening up" in Numbers if
you don't have Numbers, but at any rate it sounds like something has
happened to confuse OS X as to what program to use. In a Finder window,
Control/Right-Click any Excel icon & select Get Info (Command+I), then go to
the Open With list, select Excel & hit the Change All button.
