excel on startup

Hi
I am running excel via office sbs2002 installed on winXP Pro. When I open
the program I don't get a blank workbook but autoexec.bat, config.sys plus 2
other text files from the root of c: drive.
What could cause this to happen?

start excel
click on Tools|options|General tab

Look at the box labeled: At startup, open all files in:

I'm betting you have C:\ in that box.

Clear out that box, close excel and restart excel to test it.
