Excel opens in "read only" mode as an attachment

How do I disable excel 2003 to open as read only when is
an attachment in outlook 2003?

When you open an Outlook attachment, it opens the file in your Temporary
folder. I guess this is to protect you from changing the file, "saving" the
file into the Temporary folder, assuming it is safe and perhaps deleting it
at a later date. The Read-only status forces you to save the file
elsewhere.

the thing is this doesn't happen to the other office apps.
only excel behaves like this. for instance, i can open and
*.doc document attached to an email, make changes and save
it. i was thinking that sp 1 for office 2003 is the cause,
but i test it with and witout SP1. same result for excel.
also this i never had this issue with office xp.

thanks,

In Excel go to tools options general and uncheck ignore other applications

We use xl2k and outlook2k at work and they don't behave this way.

I don't have access to them right now, but is there a chance that the workbook
was saved as readonly before it was sent to you (just a guess)?
