my first question is:

Are you sure the workbook is open?

Try window|Arrange|tiled
If it shows up, resize by hand and save the workbook.

If it didn't show up,
Try window|unhide
if it appears then, save the workbook.

If it really wasn't open, but you can open it via File|Open,

Close Excel and
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /unregserver
then
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /regserver

The /unregserver & /regserver stuff resets the windows registry to excel's
factory defaults.

An alternative might be to do:
Try Tools|Options|General|Ignore other applications (uncheck it)

(this alternative was in that KB article.)
