Excel preferences weird events

When I enter Excel preferences I selected EDIT and "After Return move selection (RIGHT). Whenever I do this, The option "Enable Autocomplete" under Autocomplete menu gets deselected. Then I have to go back into preferences and restore this option as well. I have had some other weird issues with preferences as well.

Ideas?

Thanks

There's nothing "weird" about this one :)

That's because AutoComplete only works on columnar movement, not across
rows. When you redirect the primary trigger it's only logical that the
feature be turned off. By restoring the check afterward AutoComplete will
still work with DownArrow, and -- assuming the restored check holds -- there
is nothing wrong with the behavior of your Preferences... There are many
that impact others similarly.

I realize it's none of my business, but I'm curious about why you say
"whenever I do this"... The RETURN behavior is a global Preference that only
has to be changed once to affect the behavior in all files. It remains that
way until you change it to some other direction. Your statement suggests
that you may be repeatedly changing the Preference.

If you need to keep AutoComplete active why not leave RETURN as it is & use
either TAB/Shift+TAB or Right/Left-Arrow to move laterally?

Thanks for your prompt response. What surprised me was: The combination of "Move right after RETURN + ENABLE AUTOCOMPLETE" is a possible one, I'm using it now" so.... why does Excel turn off AUTOCOMPLETE after I change "MOVE RIGHT (from default DOWN) after RETURN">

I said it like that because I had to go several times through the process to find out what was going on. Now it just stayed that way so like you mention is a one time thing to do. I'm not a native english speaker also so I might be misspelling

If I would have been unable to use the "Right after Return & Autocomplete" at the same time, those would have been nice options. I'm used to RETURN so I would have chosen it as a first choice. TAB is ok since after selecting my choice from autocomplete it enters the selection and moves to the next cell. The arrow suggestion is not a solution though, since for ex. the right arrow wouldn't move the selection right after being selecting from the autocomplete list.

Thanks for your prompt response.
