Excel Quits Unexpectedly when I try to type

I have been using Excel for months without problem but today when I tried to open it to create a new work book it quits immediately when I try to do anything after opening it.

For example, typing in a blank cell.

One thing I can tell from the error log is that your installation of Office
hasn't been updated at all. That alone may account for the problem. I'd
suggest you run Help> Check for Updates to get Office updated to 12.1.5 then
run Disk Utility - Repair Disk Permissions.
