EXCEL Recovery

I am having a problem with a continuing error. Since last week when I try to
open Excel, it opens with "recovered" files in the lift margin. When I try to
select one of the documents, I receive an error message that MS Office Excel
encountered a problem and needs to close. If I select the block "Recover and
Restart" of not it closes. I have tried sending the error report but receive
no response nor "fix". I have tried to repair it with the original disc,
tried unistalling and re-installing but no matter what I do I continue to
have the same problem. I have similar intermittent failures with PowerPoint.
