Excel sheet loads every time I publish my FP2003 site

I have an excel spreadsheet in my site that holds info that everyone in my
theatre troupe needs. Even if I haven't updated that sheet in weeks, no
matter what webpages I update, the spreadsheet uploads with every publishing.

I could click publish five times in a row and it would upload that sheet
every time.
Any ideas on why?

How did you get the Excel Sheet into your web, did you import it, is link to any other Excel sheet
on your desktop that my cause it be access via those sheets when they are opened?

I moved the file itself from somewhere else on my C drive to under MyWebs in
a subfolder that is under the website that I'm publishing.

Under MyDocuments is a folder called MyWebs.
My website, called improventures, is a folder in MyWebs.
Under improventures, I have a folder called "personal".
Under personal, I have a folder called "ts"

I physically moved the actual spreadsheet from elsewhere on my C drive into
the "ts" folder. It's not a pointer or shortcut. It resides in that file.

So the whole thing is under
C:\Documents and Settings\Milo\My Documents\My
Webs\ImproVentures\personal\ts\spreadsheet.xls

1. It needed to be imported into the current open web, not copied via Windows Explorer.

2. However do you have any other Excel sheets, Word Document that have links to this spreadsheet
that may cause it to be updated?

I've never tried to import something from on my hard drive into the web
folder, which is also on my hard drive. Thought just putting it there would
be enough. Apparently not!

I guess I'll have to:
1. put a copy elsewhere on my harddrive
2. delete the one that's there in the web folder
3. publish, to kill the version that's on the site
4. import the folder into the file
5. publish again

Yes, I do have a link on my desktop and in my Start Menu that I can use to
quickly get to and update this folder. Is that a problem? Or are you just
pointing out that, when I do this, it'll show this file updating when I
publish? At least I hope that it will! Would this change just because it
was imported rather than copied?

Open the web in FP, then select the file, then File Menu | Export and export to your desktop, then
delete the file, then run Tools | Recalculate Hyperlinks, then open your live site in FP, delete the
file, then run Tools | Recalculate Hyperlinks.

Next import the file into your local web, then publish select Change Files Only.

Do not create any desktop or other shortcut to content that is within the folders holding your web
content.

Treat the folder holding your web content as separate HD, that is off limits to other applications,
except FP. Create and work with content not created in FP, outside of FP, and then import before
using within the web.

Bangin heads.
Any way you can get your files into the web will work. You just have to get
it there before you link to it. Drag/drop, save as, windows explorer,
outlook, nearly any program causes no problem. You may have to recalculate
in some instances, but I have no problem using any of these methods. If you
can't see it in the folder view, refresh.
I will admit however, that while your site is open, the best way is import.

With the site open in FP, drag/drop is the same as using the Import Command, so either can be used.
