After installation of Snow Leopard my Excel is extremely slow and does not answer commands until ages have passed. Have I missed a download to make Office 2008 work with Mac OS X.6?

Hey, even i am facing the same problem. I installed MAC OS SNOW
LEOPARD yesterday, and i find it is very slow.... let me know if you
find any solutions

Did you run OnyX to clean out the previous system before you upgraded? If
you didn't, it is likely to be slow.

What printer do you have? There's an issue with HP printer drivers
currently that will drag Excel almost to a halt.

Did you run FontBook and resolve all your font duplicates? If you don't,
your system will really grind.

The Snow Leopard fixes for Office were in 12.1.0 and 12.2.0 (before Snow
Leopard came out). Run "Check for Updates" from the Help menu of any
Microsoft Application, and keep at it until it offers you no more goodies.

If you installed or re-installed Office in Snow Leopard, it went back to "no
service packs", so you need to run Update to bring it right again.

But chances are, the issue is that your caches are still full of junk from
the previous system: Try one of these:

WARNING: It is up to you to read the blurb on these things carefully, and
know what they do before using them :) Some of them offer to "trim
unnecessary files" or "remove unnecessary languages". DO NOT allow that to
happen to Microsoft Office :) If you do, it will never again work right
(sometimes: it won't work at all!)

Cheers

I cleaned out the duplicates in my font book and cleaned the caches. None of
this helped. My excel runs extremely slowly.

Hi Marc:

This is not a "one-shot" fix. There are several things you have to do.

If you go back to my earlier post, you will see that that is one of a few
things I recommended.

The bottom line is "Excel 2008 is very slow in Page Layout View with
particular printer drivers."

The only workaround is "Use Normal View" until the printer driver is
replaced.

Cheers
