Hi, when you do spelling check in Word, the title bar of the dialog should show which language Word is using. What does the title bar show? Dutch or English?

Ok, I think I've figured out what's wrong. Most likely, it's due to the corrupted "custom dictionary".

1. Open Word >> Word Preferences >> Spelling and Grammer, and then note down the name of your custom dictionary used by MacOffice 2008.

2. Go to [home folder] >> Library >> preferences >> Microsft >> Office 2008, and then delete the custom dictionary you found in step 1.

You also could have went to word > then choose to edit custom dictionary
while dictionary dictionary look for odd characters. remove those then
for good measure remove a character from any word. then put it right
back. (if you remove anything be sure to close up the return (line) space.

example:

Lloyd

Jinxs

should be

Lloyd
Jinxs

(Oh I know that Jinxs is spelled wrong it would be a sample of say
something that could be in the custom dictionary for say a person name).
once repaired the save changes. you should be good to go.
