EXCEL SPREADSHEET VS MICROSOFT SPREADSHEET FOR XP HOME

I am working with an Excel spreadsheet that wa e-mailed
to me as an attachment. I have XP Home with Spreadsheet.

I've done the work and sent the revised spreadsheets as
attachments. The recipient CANNOT now open these revised
spreadhseets.

What can be done, as man, many hours of work have been
accomplished.

Might/probably has something to do with the excel versions of the two users.
Sometimes not backwards compatible.
