Excel Stops Responding In Compatibility Mode

When trying to open a file created in Excel 2003 in 2007 it will stop
responding after a few seconds. The file works fine in other versions of
Excel e.g. 2000 and 2002 and all the other files I have tried seem to open
correctly in 2007.
