Excel stuck in a weird mode

W

Wes Newman

This is so weird. When I open Excel and click on a cell,
it hilights it. From this point on, I get stuck in this
mode and when I drag the mouse around, other cells are
hilighted. No matter what key stroke or mouse click I
preform, I am trapped. The only way to exit Excel is to
perform an end task.

I have reinstalled Excel and still had the problem. I
reinstalled Office 2002 and still have this problem.

The PC is new (has XP Pro, SP1)and has a boat load of RAM
and free disk space. Tho make things worse, this problem
occures on two other PC's.

Any help on this is greatly appreciated. Technet and
Knowledge base did not help much.

I tested out the f8 key feature. This appears to relate
to the problem I am experiencing. Pressing the F8 key
gives you a visual on what I am talking about. The
problem is the PC acts like the F8 key is always turned
on.

Any chance one of the shift keys is stuck. Gently* bang(?) on the keyboard to
see if that frees it up.

(*Gently = hard enough to dislodge any stuck key, soft enough not to break it!)
