Excel Tables in Powerpoint

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
Processor: Intel

When I paste excel tables into PPT the formatting does not stay. The background is white, when I paste it as a "special object" so I can edit as needed. Is this a new glitch?
