Excel text box

Is there a way to set the default text alignment to "center" for both
vertical and horizontal in the draw text box? I am using Excel 2000. I
found it for the cell default. That's what I want to do with the draw text
box.

To get the horizontal centering--just select your text and hit the Center Icon
on the format toolbar--just like you would to center text in a cell.

I had to hit enter a few times (at the beginning of the text) to center it
vertically.

Thanks for your response. I knew I could do this. What I was trying to find
out is what my question indicated. Is there a way to set the center settings
as a default so as to save a lot of clicks and key strokes. I use Excel a
lot for drawing floor plans and I use a lot of the Draw symbols.

I don't know of any way to make it the default either.

However, you can create all the text boxes, then, select them all, and
format them at the same time.

OR
Select one textbox, and choose Format>Text box
On the Alignment tab, set vertical alignment to centre, and
set horizontal alignment to centre.
Click OK

Select another text box, and press the F4 key, to apply the same formatting.

OR
Format one text box
Select it, and double-click the Format Painter on the toolbar
Click on other textboxes to format them with the same format.
Press the Esc key when finished.

Well, that sounds like it should make it a little easier!

I don't know of any way to make it the default either.

Great, ok thanks for all your responses. My brain does get rusty at times!
Some good work-arounds, especially they paint brush. Have used it before but
not to do exactly that. Again thanks for all your help. Now, what can I do
with the time saved? Oh well, I'll think of something.

I just thought of another way that's as easy as the solution I was looking
for. I guess it just takes some extra head work sometimes to get it to
thinks. I realized that instead of dragging the textbox from the Toolbar,
why not put one textbox on the sheet formatted the way I want it. Then just
copy that one and re-size as neede and click the in the text area and start
typing...in the center it goes!!!
Works great and only one click difference than what I wanted to start with.
Actually works quicker than the brush.

I like to leave a few of the excellent ideas for other people. <g>

If you're formatting the text box, it usually looks nicer if you set a
margin too. In the Format Text Box dialog box, on the Margins tab, enter
a number for each margin, e.g. .1
