I don't know of any way to make it the default either.
However, you can create all the text boxes, then, select them all, and
format them at the same time.
OR
Select one textbox, and choose Format>Text box
On the Alignment tab, set vertical alignment to centre, and
set horizontal alignment to centre.
Click OK
Select another text box, and press the F4 key, to apply the same formatting.
OR
Format one text box
Select it, and double-click the Format Painter on the toolbar
Click on other textboxes to format them with the same format.
Press the Esc key when finished.

Thanks for your response. I knew I could do this. What I was trying to find
out is what my question indicated. Is there a way to set the center settings
as a default so as to save a lot of clicks and key strokes. I use Excel a
lot for drawing floor plans and I use a lot of the Draw symbols.
